The band needs a new conductor so we can continue to build on the progress we have made. If you are an experienced musician who would like to join this friendly group of people, or if you know anyone who might be a possible candidate for this enjoyable, rewarding task, please contact Linda Bainbridge – Tel. 01931 715395; email linda_bainbridge@hotmail.co.uk .
Linda Bainbridge conducted the band for 12 years and it went from strength to strength under her guidance until 2022 when she stepped down and now plays euphonium with the band instead.
Our most recent conductor was Gavin Brown from Middlesbrough, a very experienced brass player who plays with the EverReady Championship Section Band. He has sadly now moved on after 16 months having been invited to conduct a contesting band. Appleby Town Band has benefited hugely from his experience and we wish him every success in his new position.
We enjoy playing music from all genres. We play on formal occasions like the Appleby Remembrance Sunday Parade, and more relaxed dates like Farmers’ Markets, Garden Parties, Agricultural Shows, School Fetes and private events. A number of our engagements involve support of charities – Hospice at Home, Marie Curie Cancer Care, St. Anne’s Almshouses, and local schools and community events. December is a busy time playing carols but the high spot of our year is our annual Christmas fund raising concert for Hospice at Home. The planning for another concert this year with the Royal British Legion is also under way. Of course all these public events require a good deal of rehearsal, so we have Band Practice every Wednesday evening, which is hard work as well as a lot of fun.
